How to Share Files and Folders In Dropbox

With Dropbox working in a different way, you have complete control over who sees what. Advanced features of Dropbox are available to Dropbox Pro and business subscribers. This means that you will have to pay for features such as links that have expired or are limited to viewable file folders only because the basic feature of Dropbox enables you to access folders and share different files.

Folder Sharing

Dropbox can be used easily through the website. So first go to Dropbox and log in to your account. Those who want to share the folder. Navigate to it and click on the share icon next to the search on the top right corner. Now in the box that appears, enter the email address of the person to share the folder. Now, if you want to enter the information of more than one person, then after entering every email address keep pressing enter. If you want, you can also send a message.

Changing Permission

If you want the people with whom you are sharing a folder with you cannot invite others, then deselect the allow editors to manage membership of this folder. If there is a tick on the left side of this box, anyone can give access to the shared folder to anyone else.

If you have a Dropbox Pro or Business version, you can change the sharing permission. This can be done in the Dropbox by changing the can edit to can view. So that people can only read that folder. And when you are satisfied with the settings, click on the shared folder.

Sending Folder Link

Using the above options, the sharing person must have a Dropbox folder and keep in mind that the cloud will also occupy some space in the shared folder’s cloud storage. If you want people to download files only, you can send a link to your folder. If the Dropbox client is installed on your computer then go to explorer (finder if mac) right-click any folder in your dropbox folder and select share link from the dropbox menu. If that link is copied to your clipboard then you can paste it into an email or instant message.

You can do a similar thing to a web client. For this, right-click on the folder you want to share, select the share link, and either copy and paste the link in the email or fill in the send this link to the box and email it directly from Dropbox.

Sending File Link

This is also possible if you want to give someone access to a particular file. For this, follow the instructions given in the third step. Just right click on the file that you want to share. Whoever has access to those links will be able to view, edit, and download the content you share.

Turn Off Sharing

You can turn off access to any linked file and folder by selecting the link from the dropbox menu on the left. For this, click on x, select the Revoke link, the link that has been shared so far will stop working. If you want to manage previously shared folders, select Sharing from the menu on the left, click on the option. You can also remove different people by clicking x next to the email address of different people, or you can remove the sharing from folders completely by clicking on the unshare folder.
