Qualcomm announced Quick Charge 5, a new commercial Fast Charging solution for upcoming flagship smartphones. The new Quick Charge 5 is capable of more than 100W+ charging power, and it will be available for flagship device makers from today.
“Quick Charge 5, our fastest and most versatile charging solution, will enable consumers to enjoy their devices for longer periods of time, without worrying about the time required to recharge. We are proud to expand our technology portfolio and make accessible 100W+ charging a commercial reality,” said Ev Roach, VP Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We work closely with manufacturers to create industry-leading devices that meet consumers’ demand for more immersive and accessible mobile experiences,” he added.Qualcomm
Quick Charge 5 uses Dual Charging technology similar to what a number of other manufacturers use for their high-power fast charging technology. The battery is split into two and Qualcomm says a single battery can be charged at up to 45W to 50W. Qualcomm also says the new battery technology is 70% more efficient than Quick Charge 4+ and offers 10X more power delivery than Quick Charge 1.0, and it also runs 10 degrees celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4 and Quick Charge 4+.
Quick Charge 5 incorporates 12 separate voltage, current, and temperature protections, including USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V. It also runs 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4. Quick Charge 5 enables Dual/Triple Charge technology, adaptive input voltage, INOV4, Qualcomm Battery Saver, and the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology, which works together to maximize power transfer efficiency, increase safety and help extend the battery life cycle on a users’ device.
According to Qualcomm tests, a 4.500 mAh battery can be charged from 0% to 50% in just 5 minutes and fully 100% charged in just 15 minutes. Quick Charge also uses Qualcomm Battery Saver and the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter capabilities technology to support unparalleled efficiency and help to extend the battery life cycle on a user’s device.
Quick Charge 5 is also compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4, 4+. Charging accessories will have a voltage range of 3.3V to 20V and 3A, 5A, or a greater than 5A for current, this will also support Power Delivery.
Quick Charge 5 is currently supported by the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865+ mobile processor as well as future premium and top-tier mobile processor.
